This, again, is not me. :) This is Gregg, one of my best friends (and longest friends – over 20 years now). He came over for dinner, to dispense financial advice, and as shown here, play Rock Band.

New Animal Crossing Game!

Just read about the new Animal Crossing game coming out for the Wii later this year. I loved the original on Gamecube, but never got to really play the DS version. I can’t wait!

The Big Blog Post

Time to catch up on some recent events.

DSC00791First and foremost, our biggest news is the addition of Lily, our cocker spaniel! We picked her up on Friday, June 27th from a couple that rescues dogs that are about to be put down. The couple held a sort of “mini dog fair” at PetCo and Evelyn and I decided to check it out. We had seen Lily online, among some other dogs, and she was automatically my favorite. Once we saw her in person though, we knew we wanted her. After some waiting (we were number 3 in line to get her), we were handed her paperwork and had quite a bit of shopping to do. The first few days were an interesting adjustment period, and we’re still adjusting. Initially, Lily didn’t want to eat out of her bowl. We’d have to take the dog food out and place it right in front of her or hand feed her. Thankfully, she’s over that now, though she likes to grab a biteful of food, and walk it a few feet away to snack on it. Silly dog. She loves walking, but needs to learn not to pull on the leash. And she’s even learning a few commands; Sit, Stay, and her name. We love her lots and can’t wait till she likes to sleep in her crate. ;)

Ouch....Not quite on the same level as a new dog, but around the same time as we got Lily, I noticed my Xbox 360 acting up. It was starting to freeze in games and then eventually when you turned on the system. Disappointing, for sure, but I had heard that Microsoft extended their warrenty on the systems to 3 years, and mine was less than 2 years old. So I called up the service center and was told that since I wasn’t getting any Red Rings on the front of the console, that it was not cover by warrenty and that it would cost me $100 to fix. In a state of un-pleased-ness, I tried my system again to make the rings show up. Thankfully, and I never thought I’d be thankful for this, the red rings showed up, and I immediately called customer service again. I called on July 1st, they shipped me out a box on July 3rd, I packaged it up and shipped on the same day (the 3rd), it arrived at the service center on July 10th, and they have now shipped me out a replacement! Now, whether it’s new or refurbished is yet to be determined. But I’m glad this hasn’t taken 4-6 weeks like some people have said.

Lastly, after weeks and weeks of searching, we are the proud owners the Wii Fit. Wow, I can’t believe how difficult it was to get one of these. About 2 months ago, we went to wait in line at Best Buy. We got there at 9:40am which turned out to be too late – there were at least 30 people in line, and they had only about 15 vouchers for the Wii Fit. Next, we went to Target at 7:10am (they opened at 8:00am). We were probably 7th or 8th in line and we felt pretty good. They had the Wii Fit advertised so naturally, they should have it. Nope. At 5 till, the manager walks out and tells us that they didn’t get a shipment in. Wow, suck. We bolted to another Target near us, but it was too late. So yesterday I decided to try out Circuit City (again, with the Wii Fit advertised). I was number 10 in line when I got there at 9:15am. I had overheard that someone from the store informed those in line that they got at least enough for everyone in line. Meaning, everyone up to me. Hmmm, I had hope though. When the Circuit City employee came out with vouchers, he said they had 9. Great. Juuuust great. I was number 10. But, thankfully, there were two thoughtful couples who were intending to buy one each, but instead bought just one together. So me and the guy behind me both got vouchers. Veerrrrry lucky. :) And now we can get fit! Wiiiiii Fit!

Waiting for Wii Fit. Take Two.

Again, I’m waiting in line for a Wii Fit. This time at Circuit City. I got here at 9:18am, and I’ve heard from the people in the front of the line that there are ‘at least’ enough up to the person in front of me. Ha. We’ll see.

Wii Fit?

Wii Fit?

This was the line at Best Buy this morning. Apparently, all these people wanted Wiis and Wii Fit just as much as we did. But, we did not get there nearly as early as we needed to, so no Wii Fit for us. :-( Maybe next time.

Rock On!!!

Wow.

4 Hours.

Rehearsal for my play was called off last night.  Coincidence that I also got Rock Band for my Xbox 360 yesterday?  Perhaps.  Or perhaps it was fate that brought it all together.  Fate that the band, “Mostly Asian” was formed last night.  Anyway, we played for 4 solid hours.  Evelyn on vocals, Mike Flores on drums, and myself on guitar (though, at the end, Mike and I switched).

What a blast!  That game is so much fun, and it’s great that so many people can play at the same time.  So many good songs too, but let’s be honest here, I can’t help but mention the inclusion of R.E.M.’s “Orange Crush” (which we still have yet to unlock damnit).

Best Game Ever?

I don’t know who actually reads my blogs, or who might even care about Xbox 360, but I wanted to share a game that I’ve been playing almost non-stop since I got it… Bioshock.  It’s such an awesome game.  At it’s core, it’s a first person shooter, but it’s so much more than that.  First and foremost, the atmosphere of this game is phenomenal.  You spend your time in this underwater city in the 60s that is amazingly rendered.  It’s extremely creepy and is definitely a game you want to play at night with the lights off and sound up.  All through out the city are these zombie-like people called, ‘splicers’.  They can (and will) scare the crap out of you by appearing out of nowhere, or by talking to themselves.  Then there’s lots of real songs that play through out the game.  Real songs like “Beyond the Sea” and “How Much is That Doggy in the Window”.  In the context of the game, these songs add a layer of creepy to each level.  And of course, there’s the detailed and smart storyline.  It’s well told through characters that you meet and diary recordings that you come across.

Anyway, I love it.  It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played, and I can’t wait to beat it and play it again.  If you don’t have this game, but you have an Xbox 360 or PC, then you need to go out and pick it up!  Here’s a video clip of the game:
